local history 2001

Research into the local history of Meir Heath area ,starting with the ex iron foundry shown on picture below, picture taken from the top of the Windmill Meir Heath Staffs.
When doing building work on the site,we uncovered a large area of iron slag with entrapped artifacts in its contant. The site of this foundary is shown clearly on an O.S. map of 1901.It is not shown on previous or subsequent maps to my knowledge. Can anyone help with information about this foundary?

Does anyone know anything about Moddershall?.
It is steeped in history dateing from c1600 to the
present day.
Would anyone be interested in joining a group to
obtain permission to do an Historical Dig on the
Site and try to recover the buried mill wheel etc. Also to look for remains of a bloom smithy with a trip hammer worked by the mill water wheel.

John Fairbanks of Oulton has a wealth of knowledge
about the area, and the local people. He is an authority on water mills & windmill restoration.
Hopefully one day he might be able to advise on the fitting of new sails to the Windmill at Meir Heath. It would require a lot of the local people to support this venture. It would make an ideal meeting place, for local events etc.
